At-A-Glance
Summary
Working in partnership with a furniture dealer close to the organization, we assisted in the redeployment of 8,586 pieces of furniture from two large towers in Bellevue, Washington over the course of six weeks.
Project Description
Load out required special considerations due to the facility’s downtown location and underground docks, which limited truck access to those that are 26 feet or less.
Furnishings were transported to an off-site storage location, while FRS coordinated with the de-install teams and its movers to ensure a total of 15 53-foot dry vans were available for its moving team.
Outcome
More than 100 tons of furniture was distributed to nonprofit organizations in Washington, Oregon and Missouri. The initiative resulted in significant savings for our client, as disposal would have required more than 60 30-foot roll-off containers, with an estimated rental cost of over $60,000.
Environmental Impact
Our efforts diverted over 100 tons of various materials such as plastic, composite, wood, metal, fabric, laminate and electronic components from landfills, ultimately preventing the release of harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses that occur during decomposition and incineration.
Additionally, reusing these materials conserves resources and energy that would otherwise be expended in producing new items, thus minimizing the overall carbon footprint associated with manufacturing and waste management.
